Wynn Receives First Casino Gaming License Issued by United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates has taken a step toward a casino resort in Dubai. That nation has issued a gaming license, the first in its history, to Wynn Resorts.

Wynn Resorts is planning a luxury resort destination called Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah. That $3.9 billion project is planned to be completed in 2027. A resort hotel will have more than 1,500 rooms. No casino plans have been revealed, according to the Nevada Daily Independent.

The “gaming” license from the UAE does not specify if the decision permits a casino or other type of gambling.

“Wynn Resorts… is proud to be the recipient of the first commercial gaming facility license in the UAE,” Wynn said in a message posted on its website.

UAE becomes the first Middle East nation to issue a gaming license. In recent years, the UAE and Dubai in particular, has developed into a tourist destination with incredible entertainment complexes, including man-made islands and lagoons, as well as skyscrapers.

Only two years ago, UAE took action to structure its society to mirror the west. The nation now has a five-day work week from Monday-Friday, with a Saturday-Sunday weekend built around entertainment and activities like sports, cuisine, music, and other tourist events.

Based in Nevada, Wynn Resorts has extended its gaming brand across the globe. It has a casino resort in Macau, in China.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

The United Arab Emirates is considered a high-potential market for the gambling industry. Experts have estimated that casinos in the country could generate up to $8.5 billion.

However, expectations are that any developments of the industry will be slow and gradual, and strongly local. The first lottery license has already been won by an Abu Dhabi-based company, and this is a trend that may well continue in regards to casino expansion.
